Micky, who is Pinterest advertising really for?

That’s a good question, and it becomes even more relevant given that Pinterest as a platform is not widely used in Denmark.

Neither by users – and especially not by advertisers (which is your advantage).

But to make sure everyone is on the same page, let’s quickly go over what Pinterest is.

Pinterest is an online platform where you can give and seek inspiration. It is very visually driven. The inspiration can range from places to visit in a country, knitting patterns, cars, to interior design. You can save pins and create different “pins” and “boards.”

Who uses Pinterest?

To determine if Pinterest advertising makes sense for you, it’s important to dive into who actually uses the platform.

The latest data specifically for Pinterest is from 2018, showing that 16% of the population is on Pinterest. My experience is that there is a higher proportion of women on the platform.

Particularly popular topics on Pinterest include home decor, interior design, recipes, and travel.

What does advertising on Pinterest cost?

Just like with Facebook, you can’t give a definitive price for Pinterest advertising. As with most “new” social media platforms where advertising is possible, you will notice that your CPM (cost per thousand impressions) is considerably lower than on Facebook – and your click prices can also be lower.

The more advertisers that begin to use Pinterest, the more expensive it will become.

Conclusion: Should you advertise on Pinterest?

My very short answer is (as often); Yes, but…

Yes, if you sell products that could fit on Pinterest, you should at least try Pinterest advertising.
