These are systems that can plan, act, and make decisions over time with minimal human involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Let us take a closer look at what agentic AI actually is, how it works, and what intelligence<\/a> that operates as an independent agent.<\/p>\n<p>This means that the system does not merely respond to individual queries or commands, but can work purposefully toward an overarching goal over time.<\/p>\n<p>An agentic AI can analyze its context, make decisions, perform actions, and adjust its behavior based on feedback without constant human control.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike traditional AI models, which typically perform one clearly defined task at a time, agentic AI is designed to handle complex workflows.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Where classic AI is often reactive, agentic AI is more proactive.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It can prioritize tasks, choose between different courses of action, and determine on its own when additional information is needed.<\/p>\n<p><a useful to look at the difference between three overarching levels of AI usage.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional rule based automation follows fixed instructions and only reacts to predefined events.<\/p>\n<p>Machine learning and modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/ai-tools\/\">AI models<\/a> can analyze data, recognize patterns, and generate output based on probabilities, but they typically require a clear input and a clear purpose for each action.<\/p>\n<p>Agentic AI combines these capabilities and adds a layer of autonomy. The system can define sub tasks, evaluate results, and decide on the next steps itself.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Where traditional AI answers questions, agentic AI can ask them on its own.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This allows it to function more like a digital employee than a single-purpose tool.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_can_agentic_AI_make_decisions_independently\"><\/span>How can agentic AI make decisions independently?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The decision making capability of agentic AI is built on a combination of several technological components that together enable autonomous behavior.<\/p>\n<p>First and foremost, agentic AI operates with a clearly defined goal or set of objectives.<\/p>\n<p>This could be to optimize performance, reduce costs, or increase conversions, for example.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>These goals act as a compass for the system\u2019s actions.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Next, the system continuously collects data. Agentic AI can retrieve information from various sources, analyze changes in the environment, and assess whether the current strategy is appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Based on this analysis, the AI can plan the next steps.<\/p>\n<p>This may involve testing different initiatives, selecting the most effective solution, and continuously adjusting the strategy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/a-b-testing\/\">Read more about A\/B testing in my post here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Feedback, both positive and negative, is actively used to improve the decision making process over time.<\/p>\n<p>The key point is that human input is not required for every decision, but instead serves as overarching guidance and control.<\/p>\n<div class=\"greenbox\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Typical_use_cases_for_agentic_AI\"><\/span>Typical use cases for agentic AI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Agentic AI can be applied in a wide range of contexts, but the technology has particularly strong potential within digital and data driven areas.<\/p>\n<p>Within <strong>marketing<\/strong>, agentic AI can monitor campaign performance across channels, adjust budgets, optimize messaging, and test new variations without a marketing employee having to manually intervene every time.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The system can identify what works and act accordingly.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In <strong>e-commerce<\/strong>, agentic AI can support dynamic pricing, inventory management, and personalized recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Here, the AI continuously analyzes customer behavior and market trends and makes decisions that support both revenue and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/user-experience\/\">customer experience.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Within <strong>customer service<\/strong>, supply chain, and product development, examples are also emerging of agentic AI that prioritizes tasks and makes decisions based on real time data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/ai-customer-support\/\">Read more about AI\u2019s role in customer service in my post here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are, of course, many more types of applications for agentic AI. You can read more about them in the article here from <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2024\/12\/what-is-agentic-ai-and-how-will-it-change-work\">Harvard Business Review.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Benefits_of_agentic_AI\"><\/span>Benefits of agentic AI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are several clear benefits to working with agentic AI, especially for organizations with complex digital processes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>One of the greatest advantages is efficiency.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When AI systems can handle decisions and adjustments on their own, the need for manual monitoring is reduced.<\/p>\n<p>Agentic AI can also react faster than humans. In digital environments where data changes constantly, rapid decisions can be critical.<\/p>\n<p>The AI can identify patterns and act in real time, which can provide a competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Challenges_and_risks_of_agentic_AI\"><\/span>Challenges and risks of agentic AI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite its significant potential, agentic AI also comes with challenges. One of the most important is control and transparency.<\/p>\n<p>When AI systems make decisions autonomously, it can be difficult to fully understand why a specific decision was made.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, agentic AI requires clear frameworks and ethically responsible implementation. If objectives are not properly defined, the system may optimize in an undesirable direction.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Data quality is also a critical factor.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Agentic AI is only as good as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/big-data-webanalysis\/\">data<\/a> it works with. Incorrect or biased datasets can lead to suboptimal or even problematic decisions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"greenbox\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_implement_agentic_AI\"><\/span>How to implement agentic AI<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A successful implementation of agentic AI begins with clear objectives. It is essential to define what the AI is allowed and not allowed to make decisions about, as well as which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/definition-for-kpi\/\">KPIs<\/a> it should operate based on.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the system should be implemented gradually.
