What values and emotions come into play when making buying decisions?<\/p>\n<p>In this post, we take a closer look at all of this.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n<div id=\"ez-toc-container\" class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Consumer behavior is a broad term that covers users\u2019 actions before, during, and after a purchase \u2013 in other words, any type of behavior throughout the users\u2019 respective buying journeys.<\/p>\n<p>This can involve a range of different behavior patterns, such as impulse buying, purchases based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/influencer-marketing-en\/\">influencer<\/a> recommendations, considering purchases via reviews, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer behavior is thus a highly complex concept, and there are several different ways to view it, depending on whether you approach it from an economic, psychological, or sociological perspective.<\/p>\n<p>In recent times, a lot of development has occurred in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/neuromarketing\/\">neuromarketing<\/a>, which also takes consumer behavior into account and can measure the cognitive and emotional processes that accompany a consumer\u2019s journey when purchasing a product.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_its_important_to_understand_your_target_audiences_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>Why it&#8217;s important to understand your target audience\u2019s consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned, consumer behavior is a fundamental characteristic to understand about your target audience, as it will help determine which marketing strategies will be most effective.<\/p>\n<p>This involves crucial data about your audience\u2019s needs and motivations to make purchases, and the more data you have on your customers&#8217; consumer behavior, the better you can reach them with your marketing efforts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"greenbox\">\n<p>Imagine that by analyzing a range of data, you discover that your target audience tends to search for reviews before making a purchase.<\/p>\n<p>With this knowledge, you can create a separate section on your website for reviews and even feature these on your homepage, social media, and other platforms where it would be beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, you will tailor and optimize your strategies to fit your audience&#8217;s needs and behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Interested in how to People are complex, and so is their behavior.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, you can roughly categorize four types of consumer behavior, which can serve as a guideline to understand the motivations behind a target audience\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complex_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>Complex consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Complex consumer behavior is characterized by extensive considerations before a purchase, often involving more expensive investments like a house, a car, or similar.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a high degree of involvement, as there is a need to compare many brands and types to ensure the most successful investment possible.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Variety-seeking_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>Variety-seeking consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Variety-seeking consumer behavior comes into play when there are many brands to choose from, but a lower risk and thus a lower level of involvement associated with switching between them.<\/p>\n<p>This could involve products like snacks and beverages, but also perfumes and personal care items.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Habitual_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>Habitual consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>People are creatures of habit \u2013 and some more than others!<\/p>\n<p>Habitual consumer behavior occurs when purchasing everyday items like milk, toothpaste, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Here, there is typically little difference between brands, and users often don\u2019t consider alternatives, opting instead for the product they usually choose.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dissonance-reducing_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>Dissonance-reducing consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Dissonance-reducing consumer behavior, as the name suggests, refers to the attempt to reduce a minor conflict that may arise for the consumer when making a purchase decision.<\/p>\n<p>There may be little difference between brands, but if the user is unsure of the features and qualities they want, there will be a high level of involvement, involving many considerations and a close examination of reviews to avoid regretting the final purchase.<\/p>\n<p>This could involve products like washing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_consumer_behavior_types_based_on\"><\/span>What are consumer behavior types based on?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The consumer behavior types mentioned above are based on a wide range of sociological and psychological factors.<\/p>\n<p>There may be cultural factors or parameters based on the social contexts the target audience belongs to, which determine the habits of the group when making purchases.<\/p>\n<p>There could also be psychological or more personal factors influencing the motivation to make a purchase and the behavior behind it.<\/p>\n<p>The motivation for a purchase can be a complex issue to delve into, and there are now many theories and models to analyze this.<\/p>\n<p>One of them is the classic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/hierarchy-of-needs-by-maslow\/\">Maslow\u2019s<\/a> hierarchy of needs, but other theories have also emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Here, purchase motives for online consumers are also important to consider, especially when taking into account the proportion of purchases made online.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_obtain_information_about_consumer_behavior\"><\/span>How to obtain information about consumer behavior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Information about your target audience\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taylorfrancis.com\/chapters\/edit\/10.4324\/9780203975398-9\/studies-new-consumer-behaviour-russell-belk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consumer behavior can be obtained in several ways.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Among the most classic tools for gathering data about your audience is Google Analytics, which can provide a general overview of your audience\u2019s specific characteristics, their activity that led them to your website, and finally their behavior once they\u2019ve landed on your site.<\/p>\n<p>Hotjar is another example of a tool that offers heatmaps of your website, providing insight into user behavior once they\u2019ve clicked onto your site.<\/p>\n<p>CRM systems like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/hubspot-crm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HubSpot<\/a> are also excellent for obtaining information about your target audience\u2019s consumer behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Here, you can gain insight into consumers\u2019 interaction
