New ad banners? New business cards?<\/p>\n<p>Would you like to avoid spending thousands on a graphic designer? There\u2019s nothing negative to say about designers here\u2014and my tips can\u2019t compare to a professional\u2019s expertise.<\/p>\n<p>However, I do believe it\u2019s absolutely possible to create great-looking graphics without hiring an expensive designer. This is especially useful for startups where budgets are tight and hiring a designer isn\u2019t a top priority.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve personally worked with Photoshop for 8 years and am entirely self-taught\u2014in other words, it <em>is<\/em> possible!<\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s homepage banners for Made4men, affiliate banners for Helsebixen, or even designing an entire new website, like I recently did for <a href=\"http:\/\/bakbladeeurope.com\/\">Bakbladeeurope<\/a>, having a sense of graphic design is an invaluable skill to have on hand.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2014what if you\u2019re not a Photoshop expert, and you don\u2019t have 8 years to learn it?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the answer! Today I\u2019m sharing my 5 \u201csecrets\u201d for how you can become skilled at graphic design without spending as many years learning as I have.<\/p>\n<p>These five tools can be used whether you\u2019re designing a new business card, adding flair to your blog, or updating your banners ahead of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/black-friday-tips\/\"> Black Friday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a closer look!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Canva (free)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/\">Canva<\/a> is a very user-friendly platform that offers a wide range of pre-set templates. You can create anything from quick, simple data infographics to cool Instagram quotes.<\/p>\n<p>Canva keeps expanding its platform and has recently introduced micro-payments, allowing you to buy premium design elements for a low cost. It\u2019s a platform where you can get everything from logos and website designs to new business cards; the possibilities are extensive.<\/p>\n<p>You simply describe what you\u2019re looking for from the designers and upload your brief to 99designs. The platform has over a million designers ready to submit their ideas\u2014whether it\u2019s a new logo or something else. You get easy-to-edit files in formats like Photoshop and Illustrator.<\/p>\n<p>You could even design your <a href=\"https:\/\/graphicriver.net\/item\/simple-resume\/3118476?s_rank=4\">new r\u00e9sum\u00e9 here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Fiverr_from_5_USD\"><\/span>4. Fiverr (from 5 USD)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiverr.com\/\">Fiverr<\/a> leans a bit toward the humorous and informal side, but it can definitely be useful for business-related needs too. It\u2019s a well-known online platform where you can get services starting at just $5 (hence the name Fiverr). You\u2019ll find logo design (though not on the same level as 99designs), audio clips, translations, mascots, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>The quality can vary, so make sure to check the seller\u2019s profile and reviews. Those with many high ratings are often your best bet. Also, avoid buying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/what-is-seo\/\">SEO<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/linkbuilding-2025\/\">link-building<\/a> services here\u2014it\u2019s more harmful than helpful for your website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>For example, I used Fiverr when I wanted to create a mascot. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>It was a fun little project based on things I\u2019m passionate about\u2014and pretty cool too, right?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/612150023-748x1030-1.jpg\" alt=\"612150023\" width=\"474\" height=\"653\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Pixabay_free\"><\/span>5. Pixabay (free)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When you\u2019re working on graphics or want to enhance a blog post, it\u2019s great to have access to quality images.<\/p>\n<p>It might be for a new Facebook cover or an Instagram update.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of paid platforms that offer this type of content, like iStockphoto, Fotolia, Shutterstock, and many more\u2014but I recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/pixabay.com\/\">Pixabay<\/a> because it\u2019s a free service. On the right side of the download button, you can see whether the images are approved for commercial use.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Bonus_tip_Moatcom_free\"><\/span>6. Bonus tip: Moat.com (free)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Something I struggled with in the beginning was generating ideas for how my banners should look. <a href=\"https:\/\/moat.com\/\">Moat<\/a> can help you with that in just a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>You can search for a wide range of brands within your industry and see how their banners are designed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>I searched for Oreo\u2014just look at all the inspiration I found.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Try searching for your competitors or major brands and get inspired.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3471 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2016-11-14-kl.-14.02.48-1030x1004-1.png\" alt=\"skaermbillede-2016-11-14-kl-14-02-48\" width=\"980\" height=\"955\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hope these six little hacks help you improve your graphic design skills for your business.<\/p>\n<p>This is not to say that designers aren\u2019t necessary\u2014far from it\u2014I have great appreciation for their work, and a good designer will always deliver exceptional quality.
