We can apply this to any industry.<\/strong><\/p>\nMark Zuckerberg sacrificed a lot. He spent his student years coding instead of doing normal student activities. He built a company that could have ended up in a drawer.<\/p>\n
In theory, we could all do that. But in practice, not everyone is willing to sacrifice like he did. So they don\u2019t achieve the same level of success.<\/p>\n
The point is:<\/strong> we all choose how far we\u2019re willing to go.<\/p>\nSome are willing to go farther. And instead of expecting everyone to do the same, remember this: everyone deserves to become the best version of themselves regardless of background. You decide what you’re willing to sacrifice.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Now let\u2019s take a very different example.<\/span><\/h3>\nImagine someone with a criminal past. Maybe they\u2019ll never become the next Steve Jobs\u2014but if they stop committing crimes, they\u2019re already much further on their own personal scale.<\/p>\n
We all have different levels and goals. And that\u2019s a good thing.<\/p>\n
You can help others reach their top level on their progression bar.<\/p>\n
<\/span>You\u2019re part of a massive network<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nIt\u2019s not always about money, prestige, or fame. It\u2019s about humanity. There are 8 billion of us\u2014pieces in a giant network.<\/p>\n
There are two sides to this:<\/strong><\/p>\nAre you helping people around you reach a higher level?<\/p>\n
And are you demanding that the people you surround yourself with also help you<\/em> reach a higher level?<\/p>\nMy progression hierarchy<\/strong><\/p>\nI believe it\u2019s important to surround yourself with different types of people. Not just those who inspire you\u2014others can lift you, and you can lift them, too.<\/p>\n
<\/span>People slightly ahead of you<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nYou need someone to look up to. It doesn’t have to be in business\u2014it could be a playful uncle, a great athlete, or a successful entrepreneur. The point is: you need someone to aim toward.<\/p>\n
You need something to aspire to.<\/p>\n
<\/span>People on your level<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nIf you only surround yourself with those you admire, you might feel inadequate. It\u2019s important to have people you can grow with<\/em>. People who are at your level\u2014so you can support each other.<\/p>\nYou need people to reflect yourself in.<\/p>\n
<\/span>People slightly behind you<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nWe all know the joy of giving. You need people you can pass something on to. That way, what you learn from the first two levels can be shared down. This creates an ecosystem of knowledge, experience, and mistakes flowing in the right direction.<\/p>\n
You need people you can inspire.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Don\u2019t dribble for others – remember that<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nMy friend Imran Rashid once said something wise: You can only help people help themselves.<\/p>\n
Doing everything for<\/em> others is a huge mistake.<\/p>\nIt\u2019s like going to the doctor; you get medicine, but if you don\u2019t change your lifestyle, you just need more medicine, and then more for the side effects.<\/p>\n
Help people help themselves. Whether it’s family, friends, a partner, or children; you don\u2019t serve them by solving everything. You help them by listening, supporting, advising and showing empathy.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Rethink your views on \u201cluck\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nHave you ever thought, \u201cWhy am I never lucky?\u201d<\/p>\n
Maybe you see someone build a tech startup and sell it for millions. Maybe a friend travels the world for the 11th time this year.<\/p>\n
<\/span>It\u2019s all about perspective<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nIf you were born in Denmark and hold a Danish passport, you\u2019ve already won the lottery. You have access to education, healthcare, food, and global travel.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not saying you should pity others or sacrifice your own life quality\u2014but be grateful. Gratitude breeds more happiness and freedom. You won\u2019t constantly compare yourself to others if you focus on your own blessings.<\/p>\n

Yes, some win the lottery. But the odds of dying on the way to buy a ticket are higher than actually winning. Don\u2019t build your life on luck\u2014you\u2019re already lucky if you\u2019re reading this.<\/p>\n
99% of successful people earned it. Through sweat, tears, and risk that most aren\u2019t willing to take.<\/p>\n
Was Zuckerberg lucky because he created Facebook?<\/p>\n
He was \u201clucky\u201d to be born in the U.S., yes. But building and developing the idea? That was sacrifice and effort.<\/p>\n
<\/span>The wrong passport<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nI was recently in Dubai teaching Dubaipetfood about e-commerce. There, I met a young man from Syria. (Notice how that detail might already stir something in your mind.)<\/p>\n
He fled to Dubai to study. He\u2019ll likely never return home or reach Europe or the U.S. and if he does, he\u2019ll still be at the bottom of the hierarchy.<\/p>\n
Why? The wrong passport. Born in the wrong country.<\/p>\n
His worries are about whether his family in Syria will survive. Whether he\u2019ll see them again. Whether he\u2019ll have a future or get an education.<\/p>\n
These are things we take for granted.<\/p>\n
We have<\/em> a future. We can<\/em> study. We can<\/em> see our families daily, if we choose to.<\/p>\nPerspective.<\/p>\n
Despite it all, he\u2019s doing well. He has a good job in Dubai, speaks perfect English, and has friends from around the world. He still faces closed doors\u2014but he\u2019s alive and grateful for even the smallest things.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Karma<\/span><\/h2>\n\u201cKarma, Micky, isn\u2019t that just for monks?\u201d<\/p>\n
Not the way I see it. You can call it compassion, if you prefer.<\/p>\n
Treat others how you\u2019d like to be treated. That usually leads to good things, in business and in life. Of course, you shouldn’t live entirely for others. But the next time you can help someone within reason, say yes.<\/p>\n
Expect nothing. Do it because you can. Because you have the chance to help someone.<\/p>\n
As I said at the start: we\u2019re 8 billion people. If each of us helped the person to our right, imagine what we could move.<\/p>\n
Just don\u2019t serve it all on a silver platter. Help others help themselves, remember?<\/p>\n
<\/span>Networks and mentors<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nI get a lot of messages asking how to find mentors or build strong networks.<\/p>\n
The problem is this: most people want something out of it. That\u2019s not how it works at first. You have to bring something to the table.<\/p>\n
I once worked for free for three years. I lived on student aid and side jobs while taking every marketing project I could. I read every blog I could find.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s how I built knowledge and that knowledge became valuable.<\/p>\n
The more experienced and well-traveled you are, the more you can offer. And the stronger relationships you\u2019ll build.<\/p>\n
Example: Christian Stadil<\/strong><\/p>\nI started working for Tattoodo when it was brand new\u2014only about 1,000 monthly visitors. I felt I knew what needed to be done, so I worked for little pay to prove myself to people who wouldn\u2019t forget it.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t want anything from Christian\u2014I just wanted to show what I could do.<\/p>\n
Eventually, I earned his respect. I started working on more projects and became CMO at Firtal, and later a digital advisor for the Thornico group.<\/p>\n
That led to a recommendation that opened countless doors for me.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

All the young people who reach out to me\u2014I try to guide them as best I can, but I also say: Find your own path. I don\u2019t have all the answers.<\/p>\n
Time is a limited resource. The older you get, the more aware you become of that. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important not to end up being someone who drains energy from those around you.<\/p>\n
Look for mentors around you. They don\u2019t need to be high-profile business leaders. It could be your local baker, a family member, someone from your in-laws. Find inspiration in people who have something to offer, and listen to them. Then figure out what works for you.<\/p>\n
You need to live your<\/em> life<\/strong><\/p>\nRemember that. I\u2019ve personally spent too much time listening to the wrong mentors, simply because I saw them as oracles or had close relationships with them. That\u2019s dangerous. Our lives are different, and you can easily get led down a path that\u2019s not meant for you\u2014just because others think it\u2019s the right one.<\/p>\n
So when you receive advice:<\/strong> Use your brain.<\/p>\n<\/span>Here\u2019s my pass to you\u2014you have the ball<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\nThe ball is flying toward you, and now it\u2019s at your feet. How will you pass it on?<\/strong><\/p>\nLook around, make a good pass. Don\u2019t over-dribble. Play with others.<\/p>\n
