I&#8217;m genuinely grateful.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, I want to dive into a topic that\u2019s been on my mind lately:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Influencer marketing<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"greenbox\">\n<p>Influencer marketing is advertising based on individuals who hold a certain degree of influence and can impact potential buyers. That\u2019s precisely why influencer marketing has become a popular strategy for many companies wanting a piece of the big cake. These individuals are referred to as influencers; this includes bloggers, YouTubers, Instagrammers, and celebrities in general.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But Micky, you&#8217;re not really a blogger, are you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, but I\u2019ve managed numerous profiles for top bloggers. Unfortunately, some bloggers take shortcuts and buy their followers\u2014which is a big no-go.<\/p>\n<p>Spend 5\u201310 minutes checking if the blogger you&#8217;re considering has real followers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How many likes does each post get?<\/li>\n<li>Are there real comments? If followers are bought, there often won\u2019t be any authentic comments.<\/li>\n<li>How many posts does the blogger have?<\/li>\n<li>Does the profile look professional?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Passion_or_money\"><\/span><strong>Passion or money?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Find bloggers you can turn into ambassadors instead of just going for those with the most followers. The worst are bloggers who are only in it for the money.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it\u2019s a business on both sides, but if they promote your brand one week and your competitor\u2019s the next, what\u2019s the value to you?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Pay more and work with fewer, more serious bloggers and influencers instead of relying on 50 disloyal ones who only care in the moment you sign a deal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The trend is growing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2017-01-07-kl.-19.07.22-1030x522-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"980\" height=\"497\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_biggest_mistake_%E2%80%93_focusing_on_direct_sales\"><\/span><strong>The biggest mistake \u2013 focusing on direct sales<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I once wrote a post on web analytics. Sadly, only 1 out of 100 online stores in Denmark uses data analysis correctly in their marketing.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t rely solely on the direct sales generated by a blog. You need to understand how many repeat purchases you can generate from the customers a blogger brings you\u2014that\u2019s the true value.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Customer_lifetime_value\"><\/span><strong>Customer lifetime value<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What is a blogger really worth?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><br \/>\nSarah used an international affiliate network to promote products for a German webshop. In one year, she generated over \u20ac40,000 in revenue for them. We reached out to the shop, and they had no idea who she was or how much she contributed. Their data setup was poor, so they didn\u2019t see the value in partnering.<\/p>\n<p>We then switched the affiliate links to a Danish webshop with proper data tracking. They contacted Sarah immediately after seeing her numbers skyrocket overnight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Sarah&#8217;s sales for the German webshop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">She generated many transactions before we stopped in September 2016.<br \/>\nThe far-right column shows transactions; the one before that shows clicks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3743\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2017-01-09-kl.-19.52.15.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"986\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Check_your_own_data\"><\/span><strong>Check your own data<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have your own data in order, you shouldn\u2019t work with bloggers. The first step is being ahead of your own numbers.<\/p>\n<p>You can easily track a blogger&#8217;s data in Google Analytics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3740 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/spordinedata-e1483987404397-1030x329-1.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whether you use an affiliate network or work directly with bloggers, you can track everything they generate.<\/p>\n<p>Affiliate networks are intermediaries that manage payments and campaigns, making it easier for companies and bloggers alike.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, use Google\u2019s URL builder to create tracking links the blogger can embed in their post, so you can measure results directly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Example from Mickyweis.com:<\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3787\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2017-01-14-kl.-16.48.27-1030x1023-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"980\" height=\"973\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By using \u201cFacebook\u201d as the Source, I can track it in Google Analytics. You can define your own sources like \u201cBloggers,\u201d and then define Content and Campaign names accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blogger tracking example<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Source: Bloggers<\/li>\n<li>Medium: Affiliate<\/li>\n<li>Name: Summer sale<\/li>\n<li>Content: BloggerName<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Build_a_relationship_and_say_thank_you\"><\/span><strong>Build a relationship and say thank you<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Most people forget the idea of creating ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo suddenly switching to Adidas\u2014how valuable would he be to Nike then? It&#8217;s about creating long-term ambassadors and not forgetting about your bloggers.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve often worked with many companies through Sarah\u2019s blog. Unfortunately, it&#8217;s usually the blogger (in this case, Sarah) who has to follow up with the brand. If they\u2019re not responsive, she might as well work with someone else.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Example from Sarah\u2019s Hunkem\u00f6ller campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Blog_xmasambassadors_06.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you build a relationship early, you might discover the bloggers before they blow up\u2014and that\u2019s more fun than buying the top ones.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stay aware of the bloggers you work with\u2014for their sake and yours.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a few great ambassadors you can build strong relationships with.<\/li>\n<li>Track who performs well and reward them\u2014even a thank you goes a long way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Acknowledge their time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It takes serious time to edit a video, take quality photos, buy products, write posts, or share content at the right moment. Many still believe blogging is just fun and games\u2014but it&#8217;s far from the truth.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a full-time job, so respect that it\u2019s more than just a Facebook post.<\/p>\n<p><em>It can take me an entire day to edit a video or sort photos. I expect professionalism in return. I feel appreciated when my work is respected.<\/em><br \/>\n\u2014 Sarah Posin, professional blogger for 2 years<\/p>\n<p>Also, reflect: how good are your company\u2019s social channels compared to a blogger\u2019s?<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dont_use_a_middleman\"><\/span><strong>Don\u2019t use a middleman<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What I find completely pointless is using expensive intermediaries who have no relationship with your brand or the bloggers.<\/p>\n<p>I get that handling influencer marketing internally can be costly. But it&#8217;s necessary if you want your brand to appear consistent across influencer channels.<\/p>\n<p>By \u201cmiddleman\u201d I don\u2019t mean affiliate networks but PR agencies who simply send stuff to bloggers without a personal touch.<\/p>\n<div class=\"greybox\">\n<p><strong>A few companies doing it right<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/danielwellington\/\">Daniel Wellington<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/niketraining\/\">Nike traning (Crossfit segmentet)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nialayajewelry\/\">Nialaya Jewlery<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nicolas_vahe\/?hl=da\">Nicolas Vahe<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_future_of_influencer_marketing\"><\/span><strong>The future of influencer marketing<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I spoke with Zeth from Woomio about where influencer marketing is headed.<\/p>\n<p>Woomio is a data tool for marketers to 1) identify relevant influencers and 2) track collaborations. Creators can sign up for free to showcase their influence. The larger their following, the higher their media value.<\/p>\n<p>Brands want to reach their audience through these influencers, so influencer marketing needs a common data standard and more transparency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Agencies and brands exist in many forms.
