I certainly have.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why I love Website Custom Audiences! Uh, what\u2019s that, you may ask&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Website Custom Audience (WCA) is an audience segmentation tool you can use via Facebook\u2019s audience manager. Instead of targeting fans, interests, location, etc., you can target people who have previously visited your website.<\/p>\n<p>This can be a big advantage, especially if you have a larger site.<\/p>\n<p>People who\u2019ve already visited your brand or webshop are much easier to convert into sales.<\/p>\n<div class=\"greybox\">\n<p><strong>Audiences I often use<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everyone who has visited your website<\/li>\n<li>Visitors who\u2019ve been on a specific page<\/li>\n<li>Visitors who have <strong>not<\/strong> visited a specific page (could be your checkout page)*<\/li>\n<li>Visitors who visited one specific page but not another (e.g. visited cart but didn\u2019t proceed to checkout)*<\/li>\n<li>Visitors who haven\u2019t visited your site within the last 30 days<\/li>\n<li>Visitors from any date range between 1\u2013180 days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*If you\u2019re running a webshop, you can also use dynamic ads.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>[Tweet &#8220;Ever wanted to target your most loyal visitors? You\u2019ll find this under &#8220;Audiences&#8221; in your ad account.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2324 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-20.22.34-1030x249-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 20.22.34\" width=\"980\" height=\"237\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then click \u201cCreate audience\u201d (my Facebook is in English, so that\u2019s what I\u2019ll use \u2013 but the menu locations are the same in Danish).<\/p>\n<p>Next, select \u201cCustom audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2325\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-20.24.09-1030x404-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 20.24.09\" width=\"980\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the next window, choose which type of custom audience you want to create:<\/p>\n<div class=\"greybox\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Customer list<\/strong>: Upload a list of customers (emails\/phone numbers) and target them directly. Effective for webshops and service businesses aiming to re-engage former customers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Website traffic<\/strong>: What we\u2019re focusing on here \u2013 target people who have visited your website. Whether it\u2019s a blog or a shop, you can segment based on what parts of your site they\u2019ve visited.<\/li>\n<li><strong>App activity<\/strong>: Target users who\u2019ve used your app. For example, if someone hasn\u2019t completed the registration process, you can advertise directly to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>For now, choose \u201cWebsite traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If a code appears, you\u2019ll need to install the Facebook Pixel on your website. <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.facebook.com\/docs\/ads-for-websites\/website-custom-audiences\/getting-started#install-the-pixel\"><strong>Read Facebook\u2019s official guide here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It should be placed between &lt;head&gt;&lt;\/head&gt; in your site\u2019s code.<\/p>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2326 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-20.33.49-1030x719-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 20.33.49\" width=\"980\" height=\"684\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, a bit nerdy \u2013 but simple to set up. Otherwise, hire a developer. If you\u2019re using WordPress, it\u2019s easy with the Editor or plugins \u2013 I\u2019ll share a guide on this later.<\/p>\n<p>Once installed correctly, a small green icon will appear beside your Pixel when you set up the WCA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You\u2019ll then see an option like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2327 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-20.38.34-1030x639-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 20.38.34\" width=\"588\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As in the screenshot above, I\u2019ve selected to collect data from the last 180 days on <strong>mickyweis.com<\/strong> \u2013 that means all traffic is gathered into a list. Whether it\u2019s good or bad readers, we\u2019ll discuss that later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Then click \u201cCreate audience.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll now see a screen with all your audiences listed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2328\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-20.41.53-1030x40-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 20.41.53\" width=\"980\" height=\"38\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Where it says \u201cAudience too small\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s just because it\u2019s new. After some time, Facebook will collect enough data and show a number instead.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Targeting_specific_pages\"><\/span><strong>Targeting specific pages<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You might be thinking, \u201cBut I don\u2019t want to include all my readers in the audience&#8230;\u201d And bingo!<\/p>\n<p>It can be unwise to target all traffic. What if you want only those who visited a specific page? Or someone who visited one page but not another?<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say I want to retarget people who previously visited a post I just updated.<\/p>\n<p>Then I\u2019d set up the campaign accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2330 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-21.06.33-1030x736-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 21.06.33\" width=\"550\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or maybe I\u2019ve written a new Facebook-related article \u2013 it makes sense to target readers who\u2019ve shown interest in similar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/content-marketing-strategy\/\">content<\/a> before.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use this with category pages. If your site sells various products, you might only want to target women\u2019s fashion, not both men\u2019s and women\u2019s. Then you set the URL to include \/womens-clothing.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Targeting_visitors_who_havent_returned_in_a_long_time\"><\/span><strong>Targeting visitors who haven\u2019t returned in a long time<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I often like to shake up old traffic. So I create campaigns aimed at people who haven\u2019t visited in a while. See below how that\u2019s done. You can use the full 180-day range, but I get the best results with 30\u201350 days.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2332 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-21.13.59-1030x672-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 21.13.59\" width=\"526\" height=\"343\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Targeting_people_who_visited_one_page_but_skipped_another\"><\/span><strong>Targeting people who visited one page but skipped another<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This is super useful for webshops. You can target users who visited your cart page (e.g. <strong>www.yourshop.dk\/cart<\/strong>) and exclude those who completed a purchase (<strong>www.yourshop.dk\/success<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It would look like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-16-kl.-14.57.13.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-16 kl. 14.57.13\" width=\"637\" height=\"494\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, I chose 5 days. My theory (supported by e-commerce data) is that 5 days catches recent abandoners. Always aim to hit them around payday \u2013 that\u2019s when people have money to spend.<\/p>\n<p>If you wait longer, there\u2019s a greater chance the customer has moved on or found an alternative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Test what timing works best for you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This works for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/start-a-blog\/\">blogs<\/a> too. If you have Part 1 and Part 2 of a guide, you can target users who read Part 1 but not Part 2.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, there\u2019s \u201cCustom combinations\u201d where you control everything. It\u2019s a bit more advanced and allows for multiple rules.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you run a webshop with multiple steps or a 5-part guide \u2013 or a site structured by years (\/2014 \/2013 \/2012). Now you can do some truly advanced segmentation.<\/p>\n<p>Like this example based on a 5-part guide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-11-kl.-21.35.321-943x1030-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-11 kl. 21.35.32\" width=\"548\" height=\"598\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"notebox\">\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Focus on creating high-quality audiences. 1,000 loyal readers are better than 10,000 random clicks. Facebook is about quality if you want ROI. It&#8217;s not about the most likes \u2013 it\u2019s about the right likes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Create_your_new_campaign\"><\/span>2. <strong>Create your new campaign<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you want to do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/what-is-branding\/\">branding<\/a> via a video \u2013 and you want to reach the users collected in your audiences above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember your structure!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1880 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Kampagne-struktur.jpg\" alt=\"facebook_annoncering\" width=\"691\" height=\"730\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you create campaigns on Facebook, you choose an objective. These define what your campaign is meant to do.<\/p>\n<p>For branding a video, choose \u201cVideo views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some objectives also mention \u201cCreate ads for Instagram.\u201d Select these if you also want Instagram reach.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2340 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-16-kl.-13.39.41.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-16 kl. 13.39.41\" width=\"746\" height=\"797\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Name your campaign so you can find it again. I usually use a naming structure like: MW \u2013 (Campaign goal) \u2013 Year. That way, I know when and why I ran it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: You can easily create a campaign with 20\u201330 different audiences to test. It depends on your traffic. With millions of users, hyper-segmentation is useful. If not, broader targeting might work better to start gathering insights.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Set_up_your_ad_sets\"><\/span>3. <strong>Set up your ad sets<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ad sets! This is where you define your specific audience.<\/p>\n<p>When editing your ad set, choose your \u201cCustom audiences\u201d from the ones created in step 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Skaermbillede-2015-11-17-kl.-17.02.10-1030x588-1.png\" alt=\"Sk\u00e6rmbillede 2015-11-17 kl. 17.02.10\" width=\"520\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now you&#8217;ll see an estimate of how many people you can reach.<\/p>\n<p>You can also refine by country, age, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: If you want 110% optimized targeting, remember to exclude overlapping audiences. For example, if you have a fan audience and a visitor audience, exclude visitors from the fan list. This ensures clean data.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use include\/exclude for remarketing.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you have an audience of past buyers and one for all site visitors. Then, for instance, advertise discounts on Product A only to visitors of Product A.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Create_your_ads\"><\/span>4. <strong>Create your ads<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When creating your ads, remember: people aren\u2019t on Facebook to shop. It\u2019s not like Google.<\/p>\n<p>People are here to chat, join discussions, and get inspired.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So don\u2019t push weak sales campaigns!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you want to sell, have a clear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/what-is-cta\/\">CTA<\/a>. Some strong CTA examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free shipping for 24 hours<\/li>\n<li>30% off \u2013 today only!<\/li>\n<li>Thanks for following us \u2013 get 100 DKK off today!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again \u2013 your industry will have plenty of options to offer value. It could even be product branding \u2013 just keep the focus on what need the product solves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If your ads aren\u2019t converting, switch tactics and push great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/content-marketing-strategy\/\">content<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1856 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Create-a-amazing-content.jpg\" alt=\"Create a amazing content\" width=\"537\" height=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Recently, I ran a Facebook ad with one of my blog posts and got clicks for under 1 DKK per click. Instead, serve your users great content.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Facebook is a strange beast for many. Some still swear by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/en\/google-ads-agency\/\"> Google Ads<\/a>. I believe a combination is key.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t see advertising alone as a sustainable strategy \u2013 big players are pumping massive budgets into ads, making it hard to compete. Plus, paying for every single sale gets boring fast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise for you<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Focus the next 30 days on creating insanely good content about your products.
