And let me add one more to the list: Google My Business.<\/p>\n<p>The advantage of Google My Business is that the \u201cplatform\u201d allows you to get far without paying an unreasonably high amount. We can quickly agree that we already spend plenty of money on advertising as it is.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the Google My Business platform has developed significantly in recent years, and not everyone has kept up. \u201cWhat is Google My Business really?\u201d That\u2019s a question I often get, and I have touched on the platform in a previous post, but today I want to go a little deeper into what Google My Business is and how you can integrate it into your business.<\/p>\n<p>Okay\u2026 let\u2019s get started for real!<\/p>\n<p>When you search on Google, you\u2019ll see different results appear. Surprise! You\u2019ll also come across the classic Google ads, which are displayed first. Then there are the Google Shopping results, usually on the right-hand side. But often, this image also appears.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-255269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/google-my-business-1024x753-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"753\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This image is \u201cpart of\u201d Google My Business, and it basically shows an address, contact details, photos, videos, opening hours, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>This image ensures significant visibility in the search results, something many businesses strive for. After all, who wouldn\u2019t want to be more visible on Google?<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/business\/\">Create a free profile on Google My Business<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_needs_Google_My_Business\"><\/span>Who needs Google My Business?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At first, Google My Business was somewhat hidden, mainly used by local shops, restaurants, and similar businesses. But today, the platform is widely used by online businesses, and there are now a range of analytics tools and integrations, making the platform even more valuable. We\u2019ll get back to this later.<\/p>\n<p>In short: all companies can, in one way or another, benefit from Google My Business \u2013 it\u2019s not only physical locations that should focus on the platform.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Credibility_through_Google_My_Business\"><\/span><strong>Credibility through Google My Business<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s face it! The internet keeps growing, and things are moving fast! Can we keep up? One of the biggest challenges in online marketing today is creating credibility, because people encounter a lot of negative experiences online \u2013 just like in real life when visiting a hairdresser or bakery.<\/p>\n<p>Internet users review everything, just like bakery customers spread the word if they had a bad experience. The difference is, online it spreads much faster.<\/p>\n<p>Trustpilot has for many years been the go-to place for reviews, but now Google is entering the competition; they also want their share of the pie.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 And that\u2019s why I strongly believe you should be on the platform too.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setup_how_to_get_started\"><\/span><strong>Setup: how to get started<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first step is to go to Google My Business and create a new company profile. You\u2019ll go through a few steps.<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end, you\u2019ll be asked to verify. This is Google\u2019s way of making sure you are who you claim to be. Security and credibility are key priorities \u2013 remember that.<\/p>\n<p>Often Google will send you a physical letter (yes, those still exist). It may take up to 14 days to arrive in your mailbox. You\u2019ll then enter the code you receive into Google My Business, and from there you\u2019re up and running. Now you own your location and have control.<\/p>\n<p>But full control naturally also comes with some work. Are you ready to create a great Google My Business profile that ultimately attracts more customers to your brand?<\/p>\n<p>Most of us know the classic Greek restaurant with way too many dishes on the menu. The pictures aren\u2019t exactly appealing, and you end up disappointed when you order crispy fries but get soggy fries that are neither crispy nor salted (I hate when that happens!).<\/p>\n<p>This disappointment is similar to businesses that haven\u2019t optimized their Google My Business profile. You\u2019re not the only one controlling what gets uploaded; customers can upload photos from their last visit, and these aren\u2019t always flattering. In other words, you don\u2019t control how your business appears on Google if you don\u2019t take charge.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Business_information_and_description\"><\/span><strong>Business information and description<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first thing you should do is add basic information about your business. Remember, Google My Business is often the first place users engage with your company. If this part isn\u2019t accurate, you could quickly receive negative reviews.<\/p>\n<p>Example: Imagine you want to eat at a restaurant. You Google it, and it says the opening hours are 5\u201310 pm. But when you arrive\u2026 it\u2019s closed that day.<\/p>\n<p>Filling out information on Google My Business is fairly easy, but not everyone does it correctly or keeps it updated.<\/p>\n<p>Start with a description of your business. This could be a short introduction: Who are you? Why did you start the company? What are your core products?<\/p>\n<p>You can write up to 750 words. Make it engaging, include your core services, and ensure it\u2019s \u201cdigestible\u201d so people actually want to read it.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Contact_information\"><\/span><strong>Contact information<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As mentioned earlier, contact details are a game changer. Just like opening hours, it\u2019s crucial that your contact information works. The phone number you add should be one you can actually be reached on. Otherwise, it creates frustration.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Photos_on_Google_My_Business\"><\/span><strong>Photos on Google My Business<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>You can upload photos to Google My Business in different categories.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-255298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mickyweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/billede-kategorier-1024x74-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"74\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips for your photos<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Format: JPG or PNG<\/li>\n<li>Size: between 10 kb and 5 MB<\/li>\n<li>Recommended size: 720 x 720 px<\/li>\n<li>Minimum size: 250 x 250 px<\/li>\n<li>Quality: The photo must be clear, no filters, and an accurate representation of your business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Make sure the photos reflect different areas of your business. Don\u2019t upload irrelevant images. This is the first impression for potential customers.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Videos_on_Google_My_Business\"><\/span><strong>Videos on Google My Business<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Just like with photos, you can also upload videos from your business, which I highly recommend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips for your videos<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Length: up to 30 seconds<\/li>\n<li>Size: up to 100 MB<\/li>\n<li>Resolution: 720p or higher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tip: Use a video that shows your business at its best. A walkthrough tour with a GoPro is a great idea. So is showing how your products are made or an employee interview. In other words: create material that builds credibility with potential customers.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Products_on_Google_My_Business\"><\/span><strong>Products on Google My Business<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As shown below, I have added products for MyGarage on their Google My Business. Besides being a great showcase, it also offers excellent opportunities to use data and marketing features built into the platform.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reviews\"><\/span><strong>Reviews<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Reviews play a major role in online purchasing decisions. You know it from Trustpilot, Amazon, Facebook, etc. People can leave reviews on your Google My Business whether you like it or not. Google wants to make the digital world more transparent, much like Trustpilot does.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/econsultancy.com\/ecommerce-consumer-reviews-why-you-need-them-and-how-to-use-them\/\">Read more about the effect of reviews on online shopping here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tip: Always respond to your reviews on Google My Business. This shows potential customers you are active and willing to help. Of course, when the number of reviews increases, it may not always be possible resource-wise.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Handling_negative_reviews_%E2%80%93_without_drama\"><\/span><strong>Handling negative reviews \u2013 without drama<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A bad review hurts, but it doesn\u2019t have to be a problem. A professional, open response can actually strengthen your credibility. Take it seriously, respond calmly, and show customers you listen and resolve issues.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a simple template:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThank you for taking the time to give feedback. We\u2019re sorry you had that experience. It\u2019s not the standard we aim for. Could you please email us at [your email], so we can find a solution?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Avoid arguing publicly \u2013 and always respond, even if the review feels unfair.
