2018 is slowly coming to an end, and soon it will be time to review the year and reflect on the things that have made us wiser, as well as those we want to carry into the new year so it can be even better.
Here are 10 points that summarize my year 2018 — for better or worse. Let’s take a look back and map out ‘the year that passed’.
-
A privilege to work with exciting companies
It has been huge and, at times, surreal to work with some of Denmark’s biggest business leaders and companies in the past year. When I started in the industry 10 years ago, I never imagined I would be where I am today. It is a great achievement, and I look forward to working with even more inspiring business people in 2019.
-
Kreakassen & do-good
In 2018, I had the opportunity to be part of the “do-good” project, Kreakassen, alongside Imran Rashid, Andreas Dirksen, Jesper Hansen, Christian Stadil, and Tommy Ahlers. It has been an amazing journey with inspiring people, and I will also look back on this as a major accomplishment.
-
Mentor at Aarhus University
2018 was also the year I took a step into the academic world, a world I look forward to contributing to and learning from in the future. I have served as a mentor at Aarhus University, where I met many young passionate individuals fully committed to their inspiring journey toward creating successful companies. I’m excited to see what the future holds for these creative young people who have so much to offer.
-
MeeW & my first active investment of time
I met fantastic people over the past year, including Armin, the CEO and founder of MeeW, who inspires and challenges me. I look forward to seeing what the year brings for MeeW and our collaboration. Investing my time in MeeW has proven to be one of the best ideas of 2018.
-
My own personal blog
In 2018, I doubled the traffic to my blog, which is a big deal. I also received a lot of positive feedback and praise, which means a great deal to me. Running a blog alongside my business can sometimes be stressful, but there is nothing more important to me than contributing to other people’s learning. Therefore, 2019 will also be a year where I continue to focus on this.
-
Being able to hire & give back
I also look back on 2018 as the year I expanded my “baby” and business by adding new skills in the form of my sister Michelle, who works with communications. It means a lot to me to give something back to my family, and I look forward to our collaboration in 2019. I also owe a big thanks to my loyal Amazon partner-in-crime, Kristian Tinho. You have been a huge support, and we’ve had many fun moments in the past year. Let’s repeat that success in 2019.
-
Learning to say no
A lot has happened in the business in 2018, but I’ve also become more aware of some things on a personal level. I’ve learned that people don’t say “no” for me, so it’s crucial that I know my own limits. I’m a workhorse — both for better and worse. My strong work ethic has led me to great achievements, but it can also wear me down. I owe a big thanks to Imran for helping me gain insight here. It has helped me a lot, and I will definitely keep working on this in the year ahead.
-
Vacation & reflection
Something I’ve become more aware of is that I need to take more vacations. I need to look up from the screen and spend more time with my family. It’s easier said than done in this digital age, but I really intend to get better at this.
-
Deepening knowledge
2019 should be the year I seek even more new knowledge, and I can hardly wait to start the new year and see what it has to offer. Being able to dive into books has become not just a hobby but a deep passion.
-
One life — do things that make you happy
One last thing I learned in the past year is that people often stress over insignificant things that, in the grand scheme, are totally irrelevant. I want to get better at letting go in 2019 and do more of the things that make me happy.
Remember: you can shape your own 2019! What will you do to make it YOUR year? And what will you take with you from ‘the year that passed’?
