After several years of lockdowns, face masks, and social distancing, it seems that the coronavirus, which plagued the world in 2020, no longer has the same power to close an entire country’s stores and warehouses.

Instead, we can now look back on the Corona period with a new perspective, considering it a closed chapter.

When we look at the Corona period through the lens of 2023, it’s clear that the crisis had a significant impact on consumer behavior and the popularity of e-commerce.

Online stores of all kinds—big and small, international as well as local—saw visitors like never before and achieved great success.

Although many stores experienced complete shutdowns during the Corona period, this didn’t mean that sales plummeted.

Online platforms saw a high demand, and the businesses that invested in their webshops and online sales channels were ultimately the ones that came out of the pandemic in the best shape.

What does this mean for the future?

The Corona pandemic put many things into perspective, and the fact that we as a society were strongly advised not to leave our homes made it absolutely necessary for many to rely on online platforms.

For the future, several business reports predict that this necessity for online shopping will evolve into a convenience factor that will continue to make webshops and online platforms attractive to consumers.

Now that consumers from all demographics have been forced to shop online and have experienced how e-commerce simplifies the shopping process, Danish webshops will undoubtedly continue to see strong support.

In my opinion, the trust in e-commerce from consumers, which emerged as a result of the pandemic, should not be underestimated.

This applies both to larger, more established webshops as well as local stores that, with their new webshops, can now reach their target audience no matter where they are in the country.

The foundation for new e-commerce trends

With the rapid development and popularity of e-commerce during the Corona pandemic, there has been a fertile ground for drawing inspiration from the new consumer habits.

One of the developments has been the strong rise of live shopping, which takes into account that consumers increasingly want to shop from the comfort and safety of their homes.

With the live shopping feature now available on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, consumers can discover new products and interact with brands via live streams, thus becoming inspired to make their next purchase without having to visit a physical store.

E-commerce has, for obvious reasons, experienced a huge boost during the Corona pandemic, and many predict that these new consumer habits will continue to be a part of everyday life for Danes.
