Micky – which podcasts do I listen to?

This is a question I’m getting more and more often. In general, I’m noticing an increased interest in what books I read and what I listen to. So, I’ve decided to briefly write a post with recommendations so you can “listen along.”

Over the past few years, I’ve read a couple of books a month – but recently, I’ve shifted more toward podcasts and YouTube videos.

It may sound a bit nerdy, but I often watch films on YouTube instead of Netflix. I enjoy learning something new, so I’ll often sit down with a cold soda and dive into whatever topic I find most interesting at the moment.

I recommend starting by listening to 100 different episodes of Joe Rogan. He has truly mastered the podcast format and is, in my opinion, a solid interviewer. That’s an essential skill when you’re hosting conversations that often last 3–4 hours.

I rarely listen to marketing podcasts, as I work with marketing 10 hours a day, constantly read blog posts, and do research for my teaching. I try to broaden my horizons a bit instead. It’s refreshing and energizing to listen to topics outside of what I do every day. That’s how I see it, at least.

A small note: what I’ve learned most from seeking out as much knowledge as I have in recent years is that you start listening more than you talk. You realize just how little you actually know about a lot of things. Maybe you’ll experience the same thing.

Here are a few I recommend:

  • Jordan Peterson
    • Because he’s incredibly sharp and a fantastic storyteller. I can get lost in his podcasts for hours.
  • Tom Bilyeu
    • Because he edits in a way that keeps you engaged and makes sure the listener stays hooked.
  • Jocko Willink
    • Because he has the coolest military voice – I seriously think this man could get anyone out of bed at 5:00 in the morning.
  • Masters of Scale
    • Because Reid Hoffman (founder of LinkedIn) interviews some of the world’s most well-known entrepreneurs.
  • The Gary Vee Audio
    • I’ve always been a big fan of Gary V, even though I think he changes his opinions just a bit *too* often.
  • Tony Robbins
    • I feel Tony Robbins offers a lot in the area of personal development, so I occasionally grab one of his episodes.
  • Ted Talks
    • One of my biggest dreams is to speak at TED, so naturally I listen to most of what’s published there.

As mentioned, I’m always looking for people I actually want to listen to for 3–4 hours. I’ve listened to most of what Jordan Peterson has put out, for example, because he’s an excellent speaker and brings great examples to the table.

Here are a few of my personal favorites I’ve listened to recently:

As you’ll see, they’re all with Joe Rogan – I just really appreciate his style as an interviewer. Listening to something for 2–3 hours can quickly become tiring, but I don’t feel that way with Joe Rogan.

There are over 1,000 episodes of Joe Rogan, so you’ll be busy for a while – which makes it a great place to start.

Joe Rogan & Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson is one of the world’s most respected psychologists and, in my opinion, has some incredible insights. He draws from history, his clinical experience, and his work with patients.

Joe Rogan & Kevin Hart

Listening to Kevin Hart’s energy, power, and work ethic is amazing. There’s a downside to being that famous, and he is a *work monster*. Also, it’s really funny.

Joe Rogan & Jack Dorsey

Hearing the founder of Twitter – and possibly one of the most brilliant minds in Silicon Valley – talk about Twitter, privacy, and more really inspired me. I felt like I learned so much from that episode.

Joe Rogan & David Goggins

Because he’s one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever listened to. His energy, power, and knowledge about personal performance are absolutely outstanding.

I find the podcast medium incredibly interesting, and we’ve played around with it a bit at the office in connection with online marketing. The challenge is always to find a niche that makes sense and where the “content” is actually worth listening to.

I get a lot out of the podcasts mentioned above, and I hope you find the time to check out a few of my favorites. Feel free to drop a comment if you have a few recommendations you think I should check out too 🙂
